Your Fix for High Gain; VIVO BantamP by JOYO Audio

VIVO BantamP by JOYO

JOYO VIVO BantamP
JOYO VIVO BantamP back

Today we are checking out the VIVO from the JOYO BantamP series.

JOYO is a company based out of Shenzhen, China. They sell amps, pedals, and various music gear accessories.

If you are not familiar with the BantamP series from JOYO they put out a line of compact 20 watt amplifiers that are modeled after bigger name brand amplifiers like Engl and Mesa Boogie.

Unlike those big amplifiers the BantamP series is compact, and portable. It also doesn’t come with the shocking sticker price.

What amplifier is the VIVO BantamP modeled after?

The VIVO is modeled after the iconic 5150 amplifier.

I know what you’re thinking. How could you take the iconic sound of the 5150 and have a similar sound come out of such a small amplifier?

JOYO has perfected taking iconic sounding amplifiers and making smaller, more cost effective options.

VIVO Features

Like I mentioned the VIVO is a 20 watt amplifier. This amp has one 12AX7 tube in the preamp, and uses a solid state power amp.

Since this is modeled after the 5150, this amp brings modern high gain tones.

The VIVO excels in screaming leads, chunky rythms, but is toned down for mids.

The front of the amp has an input, channel switch, bluetooth switch, gain knob, tone knob, volume knob, and power switch.

The fact that this amp features two channels, Clean & OD, I think gives players more flexibility in dialing in tone.

Another unique feature is the Bluetooth switch. This allows you to connect any device and play music through the amp. This would be nice for people wanting to learn songs or do playthroughs. I don’t think it’s something I will use, but it’s still a nice feature to have.

On the rear panel is the Bluetooth antenna, speaker output, power interface, headphone output, and FX loop.

My favorite feature by far is the FX loop. The FX loop gives you further flexibility to dial in a tone that is unique.

The headphone input is nice because you can plug in your headphones and quietly play. This is nice for people in shared or small spaces.

20 Watts may not sound like a lot, but this can still pack a punch.

VIVO BantamP in Action

To check out the sound of the VIVO BantamP by JOYO check out the video below.

We go over what the amp sounds like out of the box, with a dialed in tone, and then in a full mix.

I have really enjoyed checking out the VIVO BantamP by JOYO. To check out the VIVO for yourself and the rest of the BantamP series head over to JOYO Audio

Revv G2 Overdrive Pedal-Gold Chassis Limited Edition

Revv G2 Overdrive Pedal

Let’s dive into the Revv G2 Overdrive pedal in the limited edition gold chassis!

Revv started the G-series pedals as a way to recreate the sound of their iconic amplifiers just in a smaller package.

They certainly delivered with the G2 Overdrive pedal!

Whether you want to brighten your cleans, add chimey distortion to your high gain tone, or boost your creamy lead tones this pedal can do it all.

G2 Pedal Features
Revv G2 Overdrive Gold

To start off the G2 pedal’s voicing is based off Revv’s ‘green channel’ from their Generator amplifiers.

Since it is based off their ‘Green Channel’ the pedal originally came in green, but is now offered in a limited edition gold chassis version.

I personally think the gold is super classy looking.

The pedal comes with five knobs and one switch which we will break down.

First there is a dedicated 3 band EQ. This is always important to help really lock in your desired tone.

Next it has a gain knob to help you really dial in your preferred distortion.

It also comes with a master volume knob.

Finally there is the Drive switch. This has three settings: Blue, Off, or Red.

With the Drive switch in the off position you can get clear tone shaping, while still getting a powerful boost.

Put the Drive switch to Blue and you get touch-sensitive crunch tones. The Blue option also gives you dynamic overdrive tones.

Lastly we have Red which gives you those beefy, sustaining amp distortion tones.

Using the Drive switch, Gain knob, and 3 band EQ you could really dial in your own unique sound.

Final thoughts!
Revv G2 Overdrive Green

I absolutely love Revv amplifiers. I think they are a really great brand. I personally love the high gain, and distortion tones you can get out of this.

Even if you don’t have a Revv amplifier the G2 Overdrive pedal can still be a great addition to your rig.

The pedal is $229.00. To get your Revv G2 Overdrive pedal head over here

New Line 6 Amplifier – The Catalyst

Line 6 has a new batch of amplifiers out! The Catalyst

Line 6 Amplifier- Catalyst
What is the Catalyst?

Line 6 just released a new amplifier the Catalyst which is a solid state combo amplifier. It comes in three different wattage options; 60-watt, 100-watt, 200-watt.

These new amplifiers are perfect for practicing, recording, and playing live.

Special features of the Catalyst amplifiers

The three models are basically identical except for the wattage. The 60-watt & 100-watt are 1x12s, and the 200-watt is a 2×12.

The Catalyst is a two channel amp, however there are memory bank slots for 12 different sounds to save your favorite settings.

One of the really cool things is Line 6 created six different amp simulators. This is basically like having six different amps in one package.

The six different amp simulators include: Clean, Boutique, Chime, Crunch, Dynamic, and High Gain.

First the Clean or clarity amp simulator gives you pristine cleans even when you have the amp fully cranked.

Next is the Boutique or aristocrat which is inspired by iconic hand-crafted tones.

Third we have Chime or carillon which is a classic chime only bigger and better!

Fourth is Crunch which is a voltage simulator and it serves up crunchy tones with a British accent.

Fifth is Dynamic which is a kinetic simulator. This boosts the mid-gain tones and is highly touch responsive.

Finally we have the High gain or oblivion which is a contemporary high gain simulator with extended lows. Perfect for modern metal!

Catalyst Line 6

The Catalyst also has a great Boost. Depending on which amp simulator you are on the boost will have a different voicing. So the boost will sound different if you are on the Clean vs Crunch simulator.

This amplifier doesn’t stop there! It is jam-packed with awesome features.

The Catalyst also comes with 18 different effects loaded into the amp.

To start there are six different modulation effects: phaser, tremolo, chorus, flanger, u-vibe, and rotary.

Next there are six different delay effects which include: echo, vintage digital, simple delay, analog delay, dual delay, and dynamic delay.

Finally there are six different pitch effects which include: pitch harmony, pitch shift, growler, octaver, octive fuze, and synth string.

I know what you’re thinking, they included 18 effects and not one is reverb?

Don’t worry! There is a dedicated reverb knob that also has six different settings which include: plate, hall, spring, chamber, modulated, and of course shimmer.

In addition to these the amp also has a gain knob, 3 band EQ, channel volume, presence knob, and master volume.

I love that they included a channel volume and master volume that is separate.

More features?!

In addition to all the amazing effects and modes you can choose from you can also plug the Catalyst into your computer using a USB and it will become a 4-channel audio interface for recording.

Line 6 also developed an app called the Catalyst Edit app that will allow you to get into more advanced settings either through your phone or computer.

The amp also comes with a power attenuator which is awesome! This means you won’t loose any tone whether you have the amp at 0.5-watts or the full wattage.

There is also an effects loop, and you can choose to leave it on or turn it off. This can allow you to send the return signal directly to the power amp if you wanted to use an outside modular and use the Catalyst as a powered speaker.

Line 6 also has the option to add on an LFS2 footswitch for even more flexibility. They also offer a cover to help keep your new amplifier protected.

Are you getting a Catalyst?

Overall I think Line 6 really outdid themselves with this amplifier.

They really went above and beyond to create an amplifier that any musician can use regardless of what kind of music they play.

I think with this amplifier the possibilities are endless for sound combinations that you could create.

To get a Catalyst amplifier for yourself head over to Line 6

New French Effects Pedals-Puzzle Effects-What’s the hype?

What are the Puzzle Effects pedals?

Puzzle Effects is a French brand of analog effects pedals.

They started out in 2019 with an awesome idea for a pedal that doesn’t need patch cables. Sounds a little crazy right?

Puzzle Effects started a Kickstarter project for their puzzle pedals.

So far there are 3 different pedals; Rocket, Submarine, and Buggy.

How does it work?
Puzzle Effects Pedals

Each pedal has circuitry on the sides that help power the pedals. Only one power cable is needed. When you slot the other pedals next to each other the circuitry on the sides will power the other two pedals without any other cables needed.

What an incredible idea!

This could really save space on your pedal board.

Additionally you can test out different chain orders to see what works best for your sound.

What if you only get one Puzzle Effects pedal?

Don’t worry, each pedal comes with a standard jack input and output to make them compatible with all your current pedals.

Rocket pedal
Puzzle Effects Rocket, Submarine, and Buggy

The Rocket pedal is a boost pedal. According to the Kickstarter campaign this boost pedal has a great dynamic response, and natural compression.

Furthermore the pedal has two active EQ bands. It has a bass and treble knob to help you sculpt your sound.

Lastly it has a boost knob which will help drive your tubes.

If you are looking for a tone similar to a tube screamer I would suggest pairing this with their Buggy overdrive pedal.

Submarine pedal

The Submarine is a delay pedal with a deep, ambient echo.

This pedal offers a hybrid approach keeping the characteristics of analog signal processing while delegating only the delay management to digital.

For this reason the pedal has a time, repeat, and blend knob.

With the use of that blend knob you can create a tone unique to your sound.

Buggy pedal

Buggy is the overdrive pedal from Puzzle Effects.

Firstly the circuitry allows you to increase your headroom from 9V to 18V.

It features a wide range of expression in addition to reactivity to the playing dynamics and volume of the guitar. Therefore this pedal is able to adapt to your playing and enhance the harmonics of your notes.

What pedal are you looking forward to?

I am so excited to continue to follow how these pedals progress from Puzzle Effects. There simply isn’t another product on the market like this one.

I’m very interested in the Submarine and Buggy pedals.

What pedal is your favorite?

To support this project head over to Kickstarter and see how you can get your hands on your own Puzzle Effects pedal.

Pepers’ Pedals Dirty Tree-Dark & Green Machine

Pepers' Pedals Dirty Tree Dark

What is the Dirty Tree?

You may have noticed there is a new boost sheriff in town. That is none other than the Dirty Tree by Pepers’ Pedals.

Pepers’ Pedals is based out of New Zealand, and they have put out some awesome pedals.

Dirty Tree is the latest boost pedal by Tony Peper, and it is incredible. This pedal perfectly combines the legendary Integrated Preamplifier by  T.C. Electronics and Fortin 33 pedals into one package. This combination allows you to get some really awesome boost and high end in your tone.

Dirty Tree Pedal Features

First of all the pedal comes with a toggle switch; to switch between the TC and DT modes. The TC option is based off the original Integrated Preamplifier pedal. The DT or ‘Dirty Tree’ setting is similar to the Fortin 33 pedal.

Additionally the pedal also has 3 knobs; level, high, and low. Adjusting the level knob will allow you to boost the overall level of your tone. The high knob lets you adjust your high frequency, and the low knob lets you adjust the low frequency.

Notably if you are in the DT setting it will bypass the high and low controls, and the pedal will have 1 knob for operation just like the Fortin 33. So to adjust your tone you would only be using the level knob.

The pedal is available in two colors; Dark and Green Machine.

Where To Get Your Dirty Tree Pedal

Pepers' Pedals Green Machine

Overall this pedal would be a great addition to your rig if you use an amp that has muddy low tones like the Mesa Dual Rectifier. It will clean up the flubby, loose low end; along with tightening the high frequencies. Giving your tone a great percussive, and focused sound.

This pedal has everything! Looks, function, and price. For only $129.00 this pedal can be yours.

To sum up Pepers’ Pedals has created an absolute beast of a pedal. Head over to Pepers’ Pedals and check out the Dirty Tree, and all the other awesome pedals they have.

ESP Guitars 2022 Product Review

ESP's New 2022 Products

ESP just announced their 1st phase product line-up for 2022, and it includes some awesome guitars. Phase 1 will include products available between now and Spring 2022.

Today we will be looking at the five products I am the most excited for.
ESP Snakebyte Camo

First up is the ESP Snakebyte Camo. This is an artist signature design from James Hetfield of Metallica. Each of these is handcrafted at the ESP custom shop in Japan. Everything on this guitar from the camo finish to the hardware is custom.

This includes a thin U-shaped single-piece mahogany set-neck. It also features an ebony fingerboard, bone nut, ESP strap locks, Sperzel locking tuners, a TunePros locking TOM bridge and tailpiece, and James’ own EMG JH SET pickups on the neck and bridge. This also comes with a matching hardshell case. Most notably a portion of the proceeds goes to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation. Which is a a non-profit, philanthropic organization dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.

This handmade custom James Hetfield signature guitar can be yours for $7,299.00.

If you want still want a James Hetfield signature guitar, but can’t shell out that much, check out the LTD Snakebyte Camo. While it doesn’t come with the premier finishes of the ESP Snakebyte it’s still one hell of a guitar, and for only $1,899.00.

ESP EC-1000

Next up we have the LTD EC-1000 Baritone in the Charcoal Metallic Satin finish.

What I love about Baritone guitars if you have never tried one out is that you can explore all the downtuning of modern metal while still playing a 6 string guitar. They do also make 7 string baritone guitars.

The LTD EC-1000 features a 27″ Baritone scale with a 3 piece mahogany set-thru neck. This sleek minimalist design includes a Macassar Ebony fingerboard, black molded nut, and black hardware. It also includes a TonePros locking TOM bridge with string-thru-body, and Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker pickups in the bridge and neck.

Fishman pickups is quickly becoming a household name to the modern musician, and I am looking forward to trying them out in the future.

If you are looking for great 6-string Baritone guitar with a sleek design head over to ESP.com, and you can get this for $1,199.00.

SN-1000HT

Have you ever seen a guitar finish that just draws you in? The LTD SN-1000HT in the Fire Blast finish did just that for me. I love the subtle color shift, and how the grain still shows through.

This features a Roasted Maple bolt-on neck, Swamp Ash body, and Macassar Ebony fretboard. It comes with all black hardware. It also has black bone nut, LTD locking tuners, a Hipshot hardtail bridge with string thru body, and Fishman Fluence pickups.

I usually prefer guitars with a set-thru or neck thru design, but lately I have been branching into the bolt-on design. I find with neck thru designs I have better access to the upper frets, but this is not always the case. I would definitely be interested in checking this guitar out, and who wouldn’t love that finish!

This LTD SN-1000HT can be yours for $1,299.00.

LTD SN-1007HT

With the 2022 Phase 1 product reveal from ESP, they included a lot of new Baritone models. The LTD SN1007HT Baritone in the Black Blast finish also caught my eye. This is a 7-string Baritone guitar.

Like typical Baritone guitars this one also has a 27″ scale. This features a 5-piece Roasted Maple and Purple Heart bolt on neck, Swamp Ash body, and Macassar Ebony fretboard. It comes fully loaded with all black hardware. It also has black bone nut, LTD locking tuners, a Hipshot bridge with string thru body, and Fishman Fluence neck and bridge pickups.

What really stood out for me is that this guitar includes a 5-piece neck. I love the look of the Roasted Maple and Purple Heart; I think those two woods look great together.

If this LTD SN-1007HT 7 string Baritone stood out to you head over to ESP and you can get if for $1,399.00.

SN-1007HT Neck
Arrow-1000ET

This review simply wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the LTD Arrow-1000 Evertune. The LTD Arrow-1000 looks like a modern take on the flying V body shape. And I love it!

This features a neck-thru design with a Mahogany body, 3-piece Maple neck, reverse headstock, and Macassar Ebony fretboard. This also has Grover tuners, an EverTune bridge, and Fishman Fluence neck and bridge pickups.

The great thing about an EverTune bridge is that it does as the name suggests. It helps keep your guitar in perfect tuning and intonation. This allows less time spent tuning, and more time playing! I also love the design of this guitar. I am a huge fan of Bullet For My Valentine, and have always enjoyed this body style because it looks like a guitar you might see them play.

Head over to ESP and this LTD Arrow-1000 EverTune can be yours for $1,399.00.

If you enjoyed these products make sure you head over to ESP Guitars and check out the whole line of 2022 Phase 1 products.
